I had decided to go on a road trip (if you could really even call it that) from my home town of East Haven to Torrington, Connecticut, to visit some old friends that had moved into their first house. I wanted to take my time, so that first night I drove for a minimum period of time before pulling into one of the hotels I’d spotted. My IPHONE had been with me through the good times and the bad. My promotion at my job, my inevitable divorce, receiving my master’s degree, and even the death of my dad… It was the last piece of him I possessed and… like I said, its sentimental value was undeniable. That’s why I was distraught when I got up the next morning, loaded my things back into the car, and rolled out of my parking spot at the hotel. I hadn’t realized my beloved IPHONE had dropped out of my purse, or that it had landed almost right underneath my car’s tire. I didn’t know anything until I had backed up and saw the shattered debris laying there on the ground. At first I didn’t know what it was, but realization hit me like “a ton of bricks” – as the expression goes. I was so sad. I got out and collected my broken IPHONE, noticing that most of the damage lay in the cracked screen. It had otherwise managed to stay intact – scratched, but intact. I felt very vulnerable without the phone, so I rushed as quickly as I could to my friends’ house. When they came out to greet me, we all had a wonderful reunion.
